Palm Software

PALM MITER ANGLES SOFTWARE This is a Palm version of my Table Saw Miter Angles software. It is compatible with any Palm PDA or compatible device running Palm OS 3.0 or above. I wrote this software so I could quickly calculate segment dimensions and saw angles in my studio without turning on my computer. I wrote this software for me but I thought that others, like Mac users for instance, might find this software useful.

This software calculates everything the my Table Saw Miter Angles software calculates plus a bit more. In addition to calculating segmented ring dimensions for using all three types of miters: stave, flat (frame) or compound, it calculates segment dimensions for open segment rings and rings with filler pieces between the segments.

I haven't implemented printing capability with this software yet because I don't have an IR printer. Also, with this software, ring dimensions must be entered in decimal form (like 22.75" or 57.8 mm) because I found that entering fractions on a PDA was too cumbersome, but I have included a handy fraction to decimal table as part of the software. I haven't found decimal dimensions to be a problem because I usually measure and mark my wood using a dial caliper which is very accurate and, of course, decimal.

Because dimensions are entered in decimal form, this software is automatically metric compatible. Actually, this software doesn't care what units your dimensions are in. They can be feet, inches, millimeters or furlongs. Whatever units your ring design dimensions are in, the calculation dimensions are in the same consistent units.

The graphic of the Line Drawing Form below is the designed compound mitered ring from the design above showing the top view and side view. Nothing fancy, but the graphic helps you visualize the designed ring.

Features of this program include:

Figures segment cutting dimensions for rings of any diameter and up to 200 segments.

The line drawing top-view and side-view helps you visualize the segmented ring being designed.
Configure the software for your model of table saw so you can use the setup angles directly, without nuisance subtractions. For example, some table saw miter gauges read 0 degrees when square to the rip fence (Craftsman) and others read 90 degrees (Delta), which would require an angle adjustment.
Final "turned round" wall thickness is calculated, which helps to eliminate common problems with segmented turnings such as too-thin walls.
Figures the trim angle, which can be useful in making compound mitered rings.
Automatically saves your work when you exit the program.
